Choice of "localities" for Active Travel Mapping

Welsh Government did not have the information requested.

Dear Welsh Government,

According to the Active Travel (Wales) Bill/Act, Welsh Ministers have determined localities within the areas managed by local authorities. This means that very little of Wales has been mapped.

How many miles of road, and what percentage of miles of road in Wales have been included in the 'Existing Route Maps' for Active Travel?

The Vale of Glamorgan has a number of family destinations that should be easily accessible by active travel. However, currently they are not accessible by families - and in some cases only by the most risk taking adults by walking or cycling.

Why were destinations for families with young children, specifically the Amelia Trust Farm, Cosmeston Lakes Country Park, Porthkerry Country Park, the Welsh Hawking Centre, and Dyffryn House and Gardens, not at the heart for the localities chosen for Active Travel Routes in the Vale of Glamorgan? Is there documentation that supports/discusses their omission?

Barry Island and Barry Waterfront do not appear to be well supported by the choice of localities.

Please provide any documentation that relates to these attractions in-regards to active travel.

It seems that rural areas are excluded from having "Active Travel Routes" due to relatively low populations densities, despite having attractions and eateries that people travel to from densely populated areas.

Yours faithfully,

Ian Perry
