Child protection processes in Norfolk

The request was partially successful.

Dear Norfolk County Council,

I am writing to you in order to obtain some information regarding child protection processes in Norfolk and the outcomes of these processes.

I would like the following data for 2020/21 if possible, but if not then the next most recent set of data would be much appreciated:

- How many families entered into child protection proceedings in 2020/21 or the most recent year for which this data is available? (this could be at any stage of proceedings, e.g. Child in Need, Child Protection, Public Law Outline)
- What percentage of cases referred to Child in Need, Child Protection or Public Law Outline resulted in a child being removed?

If you collect this data, then I would also like to see a breakdown of the information above for disabled and non-disabled people, i.e. how many disabled people entered into child protection proceedings and what percentage of those cases resulted in a child being removed.

Please do let me know if you need me to clarify my request at all.

Yours faithfully,

A. Tidbury

Dear Ms Tidbury,

Freedom of Information Request ENQ-497039-Z1M0C5

I refer to your request for information dated 22^nd July 2021

You asked for:

Information regarding child protection processes in Norfolk and the
outcomes of these processes

If you collect this data, then I would also like to see a breakdown of the
information above for disabled and non-disabled people, i.e. how many
disabled people entered into child protection proceedings and what
percentage of those cases resulted in a child being removed.

 1. How many families entered into child protection proceedings in 2020/21
or the most recent year for which this data is available? (this could
be at any stage of proceedings, e.g. Child in Need, Child Protection,
Public Law Outline)

Our response:

Due to the Council’s recording system, we are unable to provide this
information by families. This is because children are reported as
individual cases and there is no way of definitively linking them as being
in the same family.

For your assistance, we have provided the total number of children who
were made subject to a Child Protection Plan during the period 01/04/2020
to 31/03/2021.

+------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Description |Total|
|------------------------------------------------------------------+-----|
|Children subject to a Child protection plan | 564 |
| | |
|  | |
|------------------------------------------------------------------+-----|
|Children subject to a Child protection plan who have a disability | 43 |
|indicated on their record | |
+------------------------------------------------------------------------+

 2. What percentage of cases referred to Child in Need, Child Protection
or Public Law Outline resulted in a child being removed?

Our response:

Please note that this is not specifically based on Children who were going
through a Child Protection process only.

The percentage of cases provided below is based on the number of children
who were referred in the year and became a Looked After Child in that same
period.

3.6% of children referred became Looked After, 0.3% had a disability
indicated on the record
