Charges on Tips by Card for Hospitality Staff Employed by Park Authority

Roedd y cais yn llwyddiannus.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to make a request under the Freedom of Information Act.

As you may be aware, there is presently a great deal of concern that some companies in the hospitality sector impose administrative charges on tips to their workers if the tips are paid by card.

I am interested in knowing whether any workers are employed - either directly or indirectly - by your Authority in hospitality roles which could receive tips. These may range from catering or waiting staff who are used for events and functions to staff in the tourism industry. They may be permanent or temporary, and they may be directly on the Authority's payroll or employed by a contractor. If there are any such staff, then I am further interested in knowing what arrangements you have in place for any tips paid to these staff.

With this in mind, I write to request the following information:

(1) How many staff are in any way paid by the authority in a sector which could potentially receive tips, broken down by the following categories: (i) staff employed directly by the council, (ii) staff employed indirectly by the council through a contractor, (iii) permanent staff and (iv) temporary staff (I acknowledge that these four categories are not mutually-exclusive).

(2) If so, is there an administrative charge for tips paid by card to staff in each of these four categories?

(3) If so, what is the percentage charge in each of these four categories?

Thank you in advance for your assistance. Should you require any further information from me, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Yours faithfully,

Tom Stephens
