Changes to Humanities admin due to Graduate school

The request was partially successful.

Dear University of Bath,

Please could you provide me with documents held and information relating to staff re-organisation, re-deployment and the possible redundancies, due to the proposed 'graduate school' re-organisation, in particular, as it affects administrative staff in the humanities faculty.
Thank you very much,

Yours faithfully,

J Cook

Dear J Cook

Thank you for your request for information concerning staff re-organisation
in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Bath.
Your e-mail was received on 19th April 2010 and has been dealt with under
the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

The University intends to establish a Graduate School within the Faculty of
Humanities and Social Sciences. The staff establishment of the Graduate
School will be created by redeploying staff from the academic departments
within the Faculty. The creation of the Graduate School will result in
posts being lost at departmental level and gained at faculty level. Because
of these redeployment opportunities, the University does not believe that
there will be any redundancies due to the establishment of the Graduate
School.

I hope you find this information useful. If you have any queries, please
contact: [University of Bath request email].

Yours sincerely
Lizzie Richmond

Dear Lizzie,

Thank you very much for your reply to my enquiry.

However, please can I refer you to the original terms of my request in which I requested documents relating to the proposed changes that contain detailed information about the changes that will take place.

For example, the type documents I am interested to peruse would concern :
a) which posts are affected,
b) how many posts will cease to exist and how many new posts will be created,
c) will post holders continue to be employed on the same grade of seniority as at present or will there be changes, in which case what changes,
d) all other relevant information.

I would be very grateful if you could forward me this information, please let me know if you require my postal address if it is more convenient to provide this information in paper form.

Many thanks

Yours sincerely,

Jim Cook

Dear Mr Cook

Thank you for your further request for information concerning staff
re-organisation in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the
University of Bath. Your e-mail was received on 10th May 2010 and has been
dealt with under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Please note that the Freedom of Information Act gives rights of public
access to recorded information rather than to documents. Though in practice
these may amount to the same thing, there are occasions where there is an
important distinction to be made between the two.

Since the restructuring of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is
at this time ongoing, most of the information you have requested does not
yet exist. Precisely which posts will be affected - how current post
holders will continue in the same position or be redeployed within the new
Faculty structure - is the subject of continuing discussions, consultation
and briefing sessions at faculty, departmental and individual employee
levels.

At this stage, however, it is known that no posts are being discontinued as
a result of the establishment of the Graduate School in the new Faculty;
also that two new posts have been created. Ongoing negotiations are based
on the assumption that certain posts have been affected as a result of the
reorganisation of the Faculty and the incorporation of the School for
Health, but the outcome of these negotiations is not yet known. In these
circumstances it is not yet possible to supply you with the information you
have requested.

In addition, the University considers that releasing contextual
information, which may lead to the identification of individuals currently
involved in discussions about their future within the new Faculty, would
breach the fair processing principle of the Data Protection Act 1998. It is
therefore exempt from disclosure under section 40(2) of the Freedom of
Information Act.

If you are unhappy with the way your request has been handled, you may ask
the University to conduct an internal review. Requests for internal review
should be addressed in writing to: The University Secretary, Wessex House,
University of Bath, BA2 7AY.

Yours sincerely
Lizzie Richmond
