Dear Mr Rauf

Reference: IR1-2711807191

Thank you for your e-mail, below.

In answer to your first question, the GMC has appealed an MPTS decision in
respect of 33 doctors. The ethnicity breakdown of these is as follows:

Ethnic breakdown of doctors where the GMC has appealed an MPTS decision
Data correct as of 22 June 2020
Ethnic Origin # of Doctors
Asian or Asian British 14
Black or Black British 7
Unspecified 6
White 5
Other Ethnic Groups 1
Total 33

The answers to the other questions that you ask can all be found on our
website, via the Data Explorer tool, linked  [1]here.

When you launch the tool you will find that you can search the register by
ethnicity, gender, geographical location etc. The comprehensive fitness to
practise statistics that are included in the tool will provide the
information you are looking for.

I hope that this is helpful to you.

Kind regards

Mark

Dear Mark Ellen (0161 923 6347),

Many thanks for replying.

Unfortunately I am not very tech savvy. I tried to go through the website to get the needed data but I wasn't successful. Please could you make the requested data available in an easily accessible format?

Yours sincerely,

Rauf

Dear Mr Rauf

No problem – I’m happy to send you the information you seek. In fact, the
ethnicity data is held within our publication State of Medical Education
and Practice in the UK. A link to that publication is [1]here.

But, for ease of reference, the 3 attachments I am now sending you show an
ethnicity split of doctors erased following a hearing, the total number of
doctors holding GMC registration, by ethnicity (as at 30 July 2020), and
the number of doctors, by ethnicity, against whom the GMC has started an
investigation.

I hope that this information is helpful to you but please let me know if
you need anything further.

Kind regards

Mark

Dear Mark Ellen (0161 923 6347),

Many thanks for this information. It is indeed very useful. There is one request i wanted to make. For the table "Ethnicity Split of Outcomes" can you please include in the same table a breakdown of total number of complaints recieved by the GMC so that any meaningful conclusions can be drawn about the outcomes. As you can see that the breakdown of the actual numbers doesn't include any reference to the total number of complaints hence proportions can't be calculated. I can see that the total figures of the requested data are included in another table but they don't have yearly or outcome based breakdown. Please can you provide this data?

Yours sincerely,

Rauf
