Central database of lost passports

Angela Dawson made this Rhyddid Gwybodaeth request to HM Passport Office

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

We're waiting for Angela Dawson to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear HM Passport Office,

If somebody loses a passport on a plane or in an airport is there a centralised database that can be accessed to find out if the passport has been handed in? For example if a passport had been left on a specific aircraft and not discovered when being cleaned for the next flight it might then end up in another country and discovered there. Is there an international database that would allow for a lost passport to be located or would a person have to make enquiries with all the airports that the specific aircraft had subsequently visited?

Yours faithfully,

Angela Dawson
