Car-parking generated income
Dear Newcastle upon Tyne City Council,
Could I please request to see
1. Location (name and grid reference if possible) of car parking facilities (on-street and off-the-highway car parks) provided by council (ie on council land, or council operated), and their respective number of parking spaces
2. Revenue generated by these facilities, including highlighting foregone revenues such as (temporarily) free parking offers such as the city centre "alive after 5"
3. Cost to run the facilities, equipment servicing, land charges, enforcement officers etc
4. For the last five years
These numbers should then enable me to calculate the net income from council-operated car parking, city-wide. Please note I am fully in favour of generating money from car parking, and would like to see it spent on car restraint (modal shift inducing) measures such as building cycling infrastructure.
Please get in touch if there are questions, as the request may be modified to suit the desired outcome depending on what data and information you have available. There may be a council report on car parking charges, revenue and net income, which I'd be happy to receive in the first instance, but was unable to locate on your website.
Yours faithfully,
Katja Leyendecker
