Dear Transport for London,

The 603 bus runs from Muswell Hill to Hampstead early enough during weekday mornings so that children attending private school in Hampstead can get there on time. However, the bus running from Hampstead to Muswell Hill leaves too late for schoolchildren travelling the other way to arrive on time to (their state) schools.

I queried this not long ago and was told there was "not enough demand" to put on an earlier bus. Yet other buses, such as the 210, which travel from Hampstead in the direction of Muswell Hill, are sometimes so full during the school run time that they don't stop to pick up passengers, making them even more late.

I would like to know how many other people in the last three years have queried TfL asking why there are no 603 Hampstead-Muswell Hill buses running early enough on weekday mornings to arrive in Muswell Hill before 8:30 am.

Yours faithfully,

Wendy Sloane

The increase in correspondence in 2014 is due to a school served by the
route elicited a letter campaign from parents to have the times of the bus
service changed. We have looked a number of times at running the 603 as an
all-day service but we do not consider that the demand would be sufficient
to justify the service, given the existing bus links in the area. There
has also been consideration of extending and/or altering those bus routes
already serving the area but we consider the patronage would not be enough
to make the additional cost worthwhile. Ultimately, we have to make sure
that we use the resources available to provide services that will benefit
the majority of passengers.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable
to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
