Brexit 2021 and Water Rationing?

The request was partially successful.

Dear Scottish Water,
I am contacting you after reading in the various news outlets about the possibility of enforced water rationing in the event of a no deal brexit. Are there any plans in place to limit the damage of this alarming outcome? How much water will we be given as per rationing and will we be able to bathe and flush our toilets? Should we start to stockpile bottled water between now and Jan 1st 2021? Excuse the barrage of questions but this is a very disturbing scenario.

Yours faithfully,

Keith M. Suleman

Dear Mr Suleman,

Thank you for your request for information which we processed under the
Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Your request for information was for the following:
Are there any plans in place to limit the damage of this alarming outcome?
How much water will we be given as per rationing and will we be able to
bathe and flush our toilets?
Should we start to stockpile bottled water between now and Jan 1st 2021?

In response to the point 1, I can advise Scottish Water operates a number
of Business Continuity Plans which take account of scenarios that may
arise, and seeks to mitigate risks to key business operations. These plans
have been reviewed and refreshed to ensure appropriate cognisance of the
UK exit from the EU (Brexit). This has been carried out alongside
discussions with our supply chain, including chemical suppliers, to
understand both internal and external exposures and assign appropriate
ownership and action.
We are actively engaging with other water and sewerage companies through
industry forums such as WaterUK to further test chemical supply scenarios
and mitigations, as well as understand and support knowledge and
capabilities across the industry. Similarly we are involved in discussions
with the Scottish and UK Governments, and regulators to understand and
communicate risks, impacts and expectations.

In respect to points 2 and 3, your request for information are actually
questions and under FOISA,  you have a right to request information held
by Scottish Water, however we do not have a duty to explain that and
information or answer questions regarding how Scottish Water function.
From past experience this can become frustrating for customers and with
this in mind, please note I can only provide information that we hold on
record, I am not obliged to provide hearsay, verbal conversation,
explanation or guidance.

We are doing everything reasonable to ensure the service we provide to our
customers is maintained. At this stage we do not anticipate any service
issues resulting from a ‘No-Deal’ Brexit.

If you have any queries regarding your FOI request please feel free to
contact me and I will be happy to assist. You can do this by contacting
the following email address [1][email address]

You can seek a review of this response within forty working days and
thereafter appeal to the Scottish Information Commissioner.

Further information on the appeals procedure can be obtained from the
attached document and the Commissioner's website at

Yours sincerely

Dear FOI, thanks for taking the time to respond to my request about water shortages and rationing in January 2021 but I'm baffled as to why you regard details on UK Government documents as ''hearsay'' and ''guidance''.
However a partial explanation is better than nothing I suppose.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Keith Suleman
