Darryl J Lee (Mr.)

Dear Nuclear Decommissioning Authority,

This is likely an issue answerable under ordinary stakeholder / public engagement rather than a Freedom of Information Request.

In the most recent version of industry magazine ("Sellafield") (Issue 8), I read with interest that the stainless steel containers (called boxes) into which waste will be placed for storage ahead of transport to a Geological Disposal Facility are produced at a saving of thirty thousand pounds each by using an existing design over designing a new box; what is the actual cost of the 2200 boxes to be produced please?

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Darryl Lee

Dear Mr Lee,

With reference to your Freedom of Information request  "...the actual cost
of the 2200 boxes",  I have made enquiries on your behalf and have
received the following information:

The container referred to in the recently published Sellafield Magazine
(Issue 8) Boxing Clever article is actually a Broad Front Decommissioning
waste container as opposed to a PFCS 3m3 Box. The costs of the Broad Front
Decommissioning waste container have yet to be validated as a competition
to determine the cost has not yet been undertaken. Broad front
Decommissioning waste is categorised as a less challenging waste
associated with clear up of the site as opposed to the legacy waste (to be
housed in PFCS/ MSSS 3m3 Boxes) which has more complex containment
requirements.
