Blue and Gold UK passport

Roland Gilmore made this Rhyddid Gwybodaeth request to HM Passport Office

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Roedd y cais yn llwyddiannus.

Dear HM Passport Office,

I am delaying renewal of my passport in anticipation of the change from the burgundy EU passport to the blue and gold UK passport. Though I expect this to occur on 30th March 2019, when the UK legally leaves the EU, some reports contradict this expectation which is why I am seeking your clarification.

Please confirm the application date after which applicants will receive the blue and gold UK passport.

Yours faithfully,

Roland Gilmore

Dear FOI,

Thank you for your response.

I am very disappointed to learn that the new passport will not be issued until October 2019 even though we leave the EU on 29th March. Surely there is no reasonable excuse for a 6 month delay? Is this an administrative error by the Passport Office?

If I do apply for a new passport now, can I change it for a blue and gold one next October? If I can, what will the additional cost be?

Yours sincerely,

Roland Gilmore

Schofield Natalie, HM Passport Office

Dear Mr Gilmore.

Thank you for your enquiry.

I can confirm that the blue passports are not being issued until October 2019.

The reference to the EU will be removed from passports issued after march 2019 however these will still be issued as burgundy passports.

If you are issued with a passport prior to the introduction of the blue passport and would like to change over to the new blue Passport. You would have to apply as a renewal passport.

The type of passport you would choose on application form would be Changes to your existing Passport (the renewal fee applies)

If you require any further information, please contact us through our helpline on +44 (0)300 222 0000 or via e-mail [email address]

Please ensure the application reference number is included in any email correspondences sent to us if applicable.

Kind regards,

N.Schofield
