Blood Patch Procedure
Dear Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (Northern Ireland),
As part of multiple investigations into the blood patches running from early 2016, you filmed patients having the procedure performed correctly in theatre. The footage was shown to a blood patch expert who advised there was nothing wrong with Dr Watt's technique.
1. What was the purpose of filming this footage?
2. Who was shown this footage? Please provide names.
3. Who made the clinical assessment to confirm it was performed correctly?
Given this was not the conditions that the vast majority had their blood patches performed under;
4. Did you also film patients having it performed in the old A+E(PTU) or store room on the neurology ward?
5a. Have you at any point, asked patients for their experience? Such as, "what were the conditions like?" or "were you in any pain?" or "was anaesthetic used?".
b. Where can we find a record of this? Please provide a copy.
6. When was the PTU unit set up?
7. Since its inception, how many procedures have been performed there? Please provide a breakdown by month/year/procedure.
8. Please provide a breakdown of where blood patches were performed by (i) theatre (ii) ward (iii) old A+E/PTU (iv) unknown.
Yours faithfully,
Lyndsay Eccleston
