Dear Dave,
As you're aware, my request for information on this subject should have received a response by 20 October. You kindly replied to tell me that you weren't able to meet that original date, and gave me a revised date. You then emailed me again to explained that you weren't able to meet this date due to an office move, and gave me a further revised date, but I have not received anything further from you and this second revised date has now passed. Please could you let me know the current position?
Many thanks,
Susan Davis
Dear Dave,
Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.
I have heard nothing further in relation to my FOI request 'Biodiversity conservation at HM Prisons', so I am writing to request an internal review of HM Prison Service's handling of this request.
A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address:
http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/bi...
Yours sincerely,
Susan Davis
Dear Sir or Madam,
Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.
Other than acknowledgements / emails giving revisions to your expected response date, I have not received a response to my FOI request 'Biodiversity conservation at HM Prisons', originally made in September 2008, so I am writing to request an internal review of HM Prison Service's handling of this request.
A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at the WhatDoTheyKnow website: http://www.whatdotheyknow.com, in the section dealing with HM Prisons Service's requests.
Yours sincerely,
Susan Davis
Dear Sir or Madam,
I do not appear to have received a reply to either of my two requests for internal reviews. Could you let me know the current status of these requests please?
Yours,
Susan Davis
I have today posted the following letter to HM Prison Service's headquarters, as a response has still not been received.
Susan Davis
c/o WhatDoTheyKnow.com
Dear HM Prison Service
My Freedom of Information Act request, originally made in September 2008, and submitted via the WhatDoTheyKnow website appears to have disappeared without trace within your organisation.
Inquiries asking for progress updates are being ignored, and I have no current information as to when a reply can be received. I have twice asked for an internal review to be held, but no reply has been received.
A full copy of the communication between myself and your staff can be found online at:
http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/bi...
Please could you contact me via my WhatDoTheyKnow page:
http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/user/susan...
to let me know what is happening with this request, and when I can receive a reply.
I appear not to be the only person having problems; a full list of requests submitted to HM Prison Service via the WhatDoTheyKnow site is available here:
http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/body/hm_pr...
and you can see that in a large number of cases, a response is overdue. As you will be aware, failure to respond to FoI requests within 20 days is a breach of the Act.
Yours
Susan Davis
Dear Ms Davis,
Please find attached the acknowledgement to your time complaint.

c/o What do they Know.
Dear Ms Davis,
Freedom of Information request - Biodiversity conservation at HM Prisons
I am writing in response to your request for an internal review into the
delay in handling your attached information request and to assure you
that it is being dealt with as a priority.
I would like to begin by apologising for the delay in responding to your
request which falls short of our statutory obligations as laid out in
section 10 of the Act. By way of explanation, the delay has been caused
by an unusually high volume of requests for information and some legacy
process issues. I am pleased to say that we have made a number of
administrative changes which I hope will improve our service. In
addition, replies to outstanding requests are now being progressed by a
larger team and we hope to respond to all of these no later than 31st
March 2009.
The Information Commissioner is aware of the difficulties the unit has
faced and is monitoring the changes we are implementing to improve the
position.
I hope this explains why there has been an unacceptable delay in
handling your request and gives some assurance that we are doing our
best to improve our performance.
I would again like to apologise for the delay and to assure you that we
are making every effort to manage all requests and reviews in a fair and
sensible manner.
Yours Sincerely,
Michael Evans
