Bids for running of the UK drone database

I Hudson made this Rhyddid Gwybodaeth request to Department for Transport

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Roedd y cais yn rhannol lwyddiannus.

Dear Department for Transport,

It has been reported that the UK drone database is to cost £2.8 million to run, could you answer the following questions?

1) Can the full requirements be provided which parties bid for, to provide the service? It's been suggested that £1 million of the cost was to interface UTM, to clarify if such rumours are true or false could you detail if the companies bidding were purely operating a licencing database or if that cost involved developing other functionality in addition to providing a licensing database alone.
2) How many companies put in a bid to operate the drone database?
3) What was the lowest and highest cost of the bids?
4) Which company was successful in securing the bid to manage the drone database licensing system?

Yours faithfully,

I Hudson

Dear FOI-ADVICE-TEAM-DFT,

I'm following up with request as I was told the DfT didn't hold the information I was after and to contact the CAA instead, the CAA however have said you do hold information Inwas after.

The CAA have said "We can confirm DfT is funding the DRES project in line with Government Digital Service
methodology and spend control protocols up to the end of September 2019."

With this in mind can you confirm that the DfT funded the DRES project and that a tender in the region of £4.1m was awarded to BJSS Ltd?

Yours sincerely,

I Hudson

Dear Charles Odukoya,

Ref: 276221

In the FOI response the main question I was asking has been missed, I wanted to know if the development cost paid to BJSS for DRES was in the region of £4.1m?

The figures in the CAA document of £2.8m refer to the original proposed running cost.

Yours faithfully,

I Hudson
