BDS Dental Surgery Admission Query (2021 Application cycle)

We're waiting for M Ide to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear University of Dundee, please could you provide me with information regarding how you decide which students proceed to the interview stage of application, if applications are scored numerically then how are these scores determined and any specific criteria that you would look for in an applicants personal statement.

Yours faithfully,
Matthew (prospective dental applicant)

FreedomOfInformation, University of Dundee

Dear Matthew,
Thank you for your request for information from the University of
Dundee. Selection for interview is usually determined by combining an
Academic Score (based on certified and predicted grades and contextual
factors) and UCAT score.

Concerning threshold scores the University is unable to release this
information to you. To place information concerning thresholds into the
public domain is likely to prejudice substantially the integrity of the
admissions process. The University is not prepared to release information
that might create the perception of a ‘target’ or similar, leading to
applicants focusing on that rather than the totality of their application.
Consequently, under S.16 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002
(FoI(S)A) I confirm that:

a. The University holds information on the assessment of the interview
process; b. The University claims that information is exempt from
disclosure; c. The University claims the exemption in S.30(c) of FoI(S)A;
that the disclosure of this information would prejudice substantially the
effective conduct of public affairs; d. The University claims the
exemption for the reasons detailed above.

The University is required to have regard to the public interest in the
application of this exemption. The University asserts that there is a
greater public interest in it maintaining a robust and fair admissions
process than in the disclosure of detailed information on how applications
are scored, over and above that already provided. You can find out more
regarding entry requirements here:
[1]https://www.dundee.ac.uk/undergraduate/d....
The University asserts that the release of this information would not
significantly improve the public understanding of the admissions process
given the amount of information already in the public domain -

I trust that this is the information you require. Please let me know if I
can be of help in future.

Kind regards,

Alan
