BAME Representation

Roedd y cais yn llwyddiannus.

Dear Kings Norton Girls' School, Birmingham,

Please, can you supply the following information:

1. Data on Bangladeshi, Black Caribbean, Indian, Pakistani and White heritage students, employees (teachers, non-teaching employees), by grade, and governors of the school.

2. Details of any Positive Action programmes to address any under-representation in the workforce and governing body of any of the above groups.

Yours faithfully

Dr Karamat Iqbal

Dear Dr Iqbal,

Please could you clarify what you mean by ‘data’ specifically? Do you
simply require an indication of the percentages of pupils and staff that
fall into the five ethnicities you have listed?

In addition, KNGS has pupils that identify in 27 different ethnic groups,
plus those that refuse to disclose their ethnicity – are these outside the
scope of your study? Finally, do you include Kashmiri people in the
Pakistani group?

Yours sincerely,

Joy Gibara

Dear Joy Gibara,

Percentages of pupils and staff that fall into the five ethnicities listed would be helpful.

Yes, Kashmiri people are included in the Pakistani category.
I will leave to your discretion how you provide the wider pupil data.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Karamat iqbal

Unfortunately, the numbers of staff, governors and pupils in some groups
are such low numbers as to be identifiying. Therefore I have grouped
populations into two groups- White and BAME. There are significant numbers
in all groups that have refused to provide us with their ethnicity.

Staffing cannot be segregated by grade for the same reason, but KNGS uses
national payscales for both teaching and support staff.

Pupils:

Y7-Y11: 25.35% of pupils fall into BAME category (refusals 4.64%)

Y7-Y13: 25.67% of pupils fall into BAME category (refusals 3.65%)

Staff:

8.08% fall into BAME category (refusals 18.85%)

Governors:

8.33% fall into BAME category (refusals 7.69%)

We do not currently operate any specific Positive Action programmes in
recruitment.

Kind regards,

Joy GIbara
