This is to inform you that the MPS are still unable to proceed with your

On receipt of the above clarification, it was forwarded to the PAU team.
They have informed me that the clarification provided for "police bail"
describes pre-charge bail. They are now confused by the distinction that
you are trying to make.

"pre-charge bail" please?

Dear Ms Fulllerton

Freedom of Information Request Reference No: 2018020000540

I write in connection with your request for information which was received
by the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) on 12/02/2018.  I note you seek
access to the following information:

Please provide the following information for the periods specified below,
or for an equivalent period based on whatever data is currently available
through reasonable means.

1. Please state the total number of people that were on police bail
between 1 January- 31 December 2017 after being arrested by your force.
Please state the average length of time these people were on police bail
for.

2. Please state the total number of people that were on pre-charge police
bail between 1 January- 31 December 2017 after being arrested by your
force.  Please state the average length of time these people were on
pre-charge police bail for.

3. Please state the number of people who are currently on police bail
(issued by the Metropolitan police). Please state the average length of
time these people have been on bail for.

4. Please state the number of people who are currently on pre-charge
police bail (issued by the Metropolitan police). Please state the average
length of time these people have been on bail for.

5. Please state the number of people released under investigation by the
Metropolitan Police between 3 April 2017- 3 February 2018. Please state
the average length of time they have been released under investigation for
(prior to charges being brought against them or an end to their being
under investigation).

6. Please state the number of people currently released under

being brought against them or an end to their being under investigation).

If only some of this data is available through reasonable means, please
provide the data which is available.

Clarification received 05/06/18:

I would like the information relating to pre-charge bail only. Please
ignore the distinction I tried to make between police bail and pre-charge
bail.  I did not realize they were the same thing.

To locate the information relevant to your request searches were conducted
at the Performance and Assurance Unit (PAU).  The searches located
information relevant to your request.

DECISION

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.

Please find attached information pursuant to your request above.

Issues with MPS IT make it difficult to accurately update the custody
system in all cases in a timely manner. This combined with conflicting
procedural issues means that any reference to total numbers of persons
subject to RUI may not be truly reflective of the actual state of the
investigation.

Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please
contact me via email at [email address], quoting the reference
number above.

Please accept our apologies for the delay in responding to your FOIA
request.

Yours sincerely
