Asbestos in residential properties owned/managed by Bradford City council

Bradford City Council did not have the information requested.

Andrew J Killingbeck

Dear Bradford City Council,

Following the end of World War 2, many new homes/ houses were built by councils all over the country. Many of these were of "Non-Standard Construction &/or Prefabricated Reinforced Concrete (PRC) properties".
Asbestos or products containing asbestos was used in many of these constructions.
Asbestos was only finally banned in 1999 – however few people realise it is present in about half of all residential properties
Therefore
1/ Can you please supply a list of all domestic/residential construction types (Standard, Non Standard/ Pre fabricated) that are known to contain asbestos, which are owned by or managed by Bradford City Council

2/ The locations within those properties (construction) types where asbestos is known or expected to be found. (copies of owner/occupier data, or information sheets are acceptable)

3/ A list of all the postcodes of such properties.

Yours faithfully,

Andrew J Killingbeck

Dear Belinda Gaynor,

Thank you for your reply, I am puzzled at your response (para 1) which states "and as such does not own any pre war council housing containing asbestos." Can you clarify that you meant post war?

You say that all housing stock was transferred in 2003, however the properties I referred to were managed by Bradford City council prior the the banning of Asbestos in 1999. Can you confirm that you held the information requested prior to that transfer?
Yours sincerely,

Andrew J Killingbeck

Belinda Gaynor, Bradford City Council

Dear Mr Killingbeck,

Apologies, I did of course mean post war.

The council would have held asbestos records relating to its council house stock prior to stock transfer but all records relating to the houses (including asbestos surveys and registers) were passed to Incommunities in 2003.

Regards
