Arrest and Charge Statistics for detained persons/defendants who have ASD.

I am writing to you in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information from [Authority name]:

1) the number of people arrested within your force area over the last 12 months for

a) sexual offences,
b) violent offences and
c) other dangerous offences

and whom

a) disclosed having an Autistic Spectrum Disorder upon arrest and/or at the time of their detention in custody being authorised AND
b) were charged with a criminal offence.

In an attempt to clarify and make our request clear, I can confirm that the disclosure request relates to those individuals who have declared or it has been established that they have or are on the Autistic Spectrum in some capacity.

Please provide the information in the form of an excel, word, and/or pdf document where possible, however, if it is easier to send via postal mail, we are happy to receive such to our postal address of Conviction, 7 Bell Yard, London, WC2A 2JR.

If it is not possible to provide the information requested due to the information exceeding the cost of compliance limits identified in Section 12, please provide advice and assistance, under the Section 16 obligations of the Act, as to how we can refine our request.

If you can identify any ways that our request could be refined we would be grateful for any further advice and assistance.

Thank you for your request for information dated 11th July 2020 concerning arrests in the last 12 months who have ASD. Your request will be considered under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Your request will now be considered and you will receive a response within the statutory timescale of 20 working days as defined by the Act, subject to the information not being exempt or containing a reference to a third party. In some circumstances Wiltshire Police may be unable to achieve this deadline. If this is likely you will be informed and given a revised time-scale at the earliest opportunity.

Although every effort will be made to ensure a response is provided within statutory deadlines, due to current circumstances delays may be unavoidable. We apologise for any inconvenience and will endeavour to process your request as quickly as is practicable.

There may be a fee payable for the retrieval, collation and provision of the information you request. If this is the case you will be informed and the 20 working day timescale will be suspended until we receive payment from you. If you chose not to make a payment then your request will remain unanswered.

Some requests may also require either full or partial transference to another public authority in order to answer your query in the fullest possible way. Again, you will be informed if this is the case.
