Army service details for Lawrence Arthur Hayes.
Dear British Army,
I am requesting army service details about my brother, Lawrence Arthur Hayes [30/8/1926 - 3/1989].
Lawrence served with the Gordon Highlanders from about 1943 to 1945 and saw action in Holland and Germany.
Yours faithfully, Kenneth Hayes.
Mr Hayes,
Thank you for your WhatDoTheyKnow Freedom of Information request.
The information you have requested is of a personal nature and therefore falls out with the scope of a Freedom of Information request.
You may wish to visit the following website which explains how to apply for access to personal data held by the Ministry of Defence (MOD):
https://www.gov.uk/government/collection...
Additionally, as WhatDoTheyKnow is a public website I would recommend that you ask them to remove your request from public view for your own personal data protection and that of your brother.
I hope this helps.

The MoD have a paid for : "Request records of deceased service personnel" service which is described at:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/request-reco...
I suspect FOI law does not provide a means of evading this fee due to the exemption for material accessible via other means. The Army should still have provided a response compatible with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act.
