Please can you provide the following information:

1. Basic salary of operational Area Managers (Commanders) per annum
2. Allowances paid to operational Area Managers (Commanders) per annum
3. Rota pattern for operation duty for operational Area Managers (Commanders) ie 4 days on 3 days off. Does this consist of primary and secondary on call arrangements?
4. The value of any vehicle contribution paid per annum
5. Number of annual leave days for operational Area Managers (Commanders) per annum

I write in response to your email of 16 February 2020 in which you submitted an information request to the Service. Your request has been dealt with in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) and our response is below.

Your request

1.Basic salary of operational Area Managers (Commanders) per annum.
Following the national Pay settlement 2019 operational Area Managers are paid a Basic Annual salary of £59,565 gross with a Basic hourly rate of £27.20 gross. The national terms and conditions of service are contained in the National Joint Council For Local Authority Fire And Rescue Services Scheme of Conditions of Service Sixth Edition 2004 (updated 2009)

2.Allowances paid to operational Area Managers (Commanders) per annum.
The basic salary is £59,565 plus a Flexi Duty payment of £11,913 plus an Extra Responsibility payment of £6,709.25 making a total of £78,187 gross per annum.

3.Rota pattern for operation duty for operational Area Managers (Commanders) ie 4 days on 3 days off. Does this consist of primary and secondary on call arrangements?
This is a three week rotation: one week primary on-call cover as Duty Strategic Manager from 9am Monday morning until 9am the following Monday morning. For the other 2 weeks, an operational Area Manager provides secondary cover.

4.The value of any vehicle contribution paid per annum.
Vehicle contributions for Service Vehicles if the employee uses them for private use are £368.52 per annum.

5.Number of annual leave days for operational Area Managers (Commanders) per annum.
Operational Area Managers’ leave entitlement for a full year is 36 days, inclusive of concessionary and long service days. The entitlement is in addition to 8 designated bank holidays.
