Archive

The request was successful.

Dear National Savings and Investments,

About 15 years ago, I was shown around the archive material held by National Savings and Investments (then called National Savings) in the basement of its previous HQ building in Charles House, Kensington High Street. This material included orginals and copies of campaign posters from the Second World War for example.

Now that National Savings and Investments has moved, I would be grateful if you could inform me:

(1) The current location of the archive material previously held in the basement of Charles House, Kensington High Street

(2) Whether the archive material is available to be viewed by the public, and whether copies are available or could be made

(3) Whether National Savings and Investments has a digital archive of its all or some of its previous advertising or campaigns. If so, how could I be sent some of the digital archive or have access to it?

Yours faithfully,

Karen Brownleaven

National Savings and Investments

Our ref:FOI736

Date: 28 December 2012

Dear Karen Brownleaven,

Request under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000

Thank you for your email of 25 December making a request for information
from NS&I. Please refer to our answers in response to your questions
below.

Question (1) The current location of the archive material previously held
in the basement of Charles House, Kensington High Street.

Reply: The archive of National Savings prints and posters which was held
in Kensington was moved to our Glasgow premises in 2010 when Charles House
was demolished. NS&I headquarters is now in much smaller offices in
Pimlico.

Question (2) Whether the archive material is available to be viewed by the
public, and whether copies are available or could be made

Reply: The archive can be viewed by special arrangement. We have no
copying facility for the prints as they are too large for standard office
copiers and many are framed or in a fragile condition. Any visit would
have to be made at your own expense.

Question (3) Whether National Savings and Investments has a digital
archive of its all or some of its previous advertising or campaigns. If
so, how could I be sent some of the digital archive or have access to it?

Reply: There is a digital archive on our web site at nsandi.com under the
heritage section “Why save with us?”. This shows ads and publicity
material over the decades.
