Tracey Crombie,

Dear Mr Slingsley

Further to your FOI request, please see below:-

1.      During what years was the BSc Applied Computer Science degree
course operating for?

The BSc Applied Computer Science degree (I402) admitted students into
Level 1 in the academic years 2015/16 - 2018/19 inclusive.

2.      During what years was the BSc Applied Computer Science degree
course present within the UCAS applications system?

The BSc Applied Computer Science degree (I402) was present in UCAS for
admission to the academic years 2015/16 - 2018/19 inclusive.

Admission is in the previous academic cycle so the course was available in
UCAS in the academic years 2014/15 - 2017/18 inclusive.

3.      How many applicants were there for the course during each of those
years?

For the BSc Applied Computer Science (I402):

For 2015/16 there were 131 applications

For 2016/17 there were 208 applications

For 2017/18 there were 142 applications

For 2018/19 there were 71 applications

4.      How many of said applicants were successful in receiving an offer?

For 2015/16 there were 92 offers

For 2016/17 there were 166 offers

For 2017/18 there were 101 offers

For 2018/19 there were 44 offers

5.      Why was the course discontinued?

The decision to discontinue the course was taken for a number of reasons:

·        overall our Level 1 intake had risen to a point that was near the
capacity of the school

·        the number recruited on Applied Computer Science was much smaller
than on Computer Science (and its variants)

·        the  Applied Computer Science degree required us to deliver
additional teaching across all years of study

Withdrawal of the Applied Computer Science degree allowed us to better
manage the size of our Level

1 intake and also gradually reduce the total module count that we deliver,
reducing workload on teaching

staff.

I hope this is helpful in resolving your query. If you have any questions
about this email, however, please don't hesitate to contact me.

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your
request and wish to make a complaint or request a review of our decision,
you should write to or email directly Mr D Wardle, Deputy Secretary, The

should do so within 40 working days of receiving the University’s response
to your request. Further information about how the University manages
Freedom of Information requests and about our complaints procedure is also
available on our website ([2]www.leeds.ac.uk).

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have
the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision.  Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have
exhausted the review/complaints procedure provided by the University.  The
Information Commissioner can be contacted at:  Information Commissioner’s
Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

Best wishes,
