Ancient woodland translocation methodology

The request was partially successful.

Dear Kent County Council,

I would like to request a copy of the methodology that was followed for the translocation of ancient woodland that was part of the mitigation strategy for the construction of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL). This document would have had to have been submitted for review prior to work commencing.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

E. Venables

Many thanks for the Ecology and Geology

Environmental management Plan – 1997.

Contractors method statement for undertaking AWT – Contract 430, 1998.

Kent County Council

Dear Mr Venables

Thank you for your request for information regarding the Channel Tunnel
Rail Link.

Kent County Council does not  have the Contractor’s method statement for
undertaking AWT – Contract 430, 1998, nor the Ecology Specialist Study –
Botanical monitoring of woodland soil receptor sites, 2007.  There is no
single Environmental Management Plan.  The Project was required by
Parliament to meet various environmental obligations which were set out as
the Project’s Environmental Minimum Requirements (EMRs).  These required
the preparation of a number of Environmental Management Plans on a range
of topics (of which you have the Ecology and Geology one).  Taken together
the Topic Plans form the Environmental Management Plan. The Topic Plans
provided an intermediate step between the general environmental protection
measures set out in the EMRs and the more detailed measures in the
construction arrangements which were approved by the relevant local
planning authorities as part of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link Act.  I can
confirm that Kent County Council was not the planning authority for the
detailed measures.
