Amount TfL expended to cover its Bus Subcontractors' Subscription Costs to CIRAS 2016 and 2017

The request was refused by Transport for London.

Dear Transport for London,

Based on Companies' House Data, in FY 2015, London Bus Subcontractors earned more than £135 million in profits running Bus Services contracted to TfL's London Bus Services Limited. During a House of Commons Transport Committee Debate on 14 March 2017 (found on 114 in https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm...), Andrew Jones MP stated "I understand that TfL pays the subscription cost for CIRAS on behalf of its operators, and that is its choice." How much did TfL expend to cover its Bus Contractors' subscription costs to CIRAS for 2016 and, if applicable, for 2017?

Yours faithfully,

Tom Kearney

Dear Gemma Jacob,

On 1 August 2017, I asked a very specific question:

"How much did TfL expend to cover its Bus Contractors' subscription costs to CIRAS for 2016 and, if applicable, for 2017?"

and you responded:

"The subscriptions were extended at no additional cost."

While we've established that TfL indeed paid the CIRAS subscriptions for its Bus Company Subcontractors "at no additional cost" in 2016 and 2017, even the most cursory review of my original question will make it clear that I want to know exactly how much TfL paid in 2016 and 2017 to extend CIRAS to its Bus Company Subcontractors.

Please inform me what those specific sums are.

Yours sincerely,

Tom Kearney

Dear FOI,

A quick analysis of the Expenditures (https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publication...) made by TfL to the Rail Safety & Standards Board (RSSB, which, inter alia, invoices TfL on behalf of CIRAS for annual subscriptions) for the periods 2015-16 and 2016-17 shows an increase of approximately £8000 (exactly £8043.50) for the latter period. Kindly confirm (or deny) if that increased expenditure in fact reflects the increased annual CIRAS subscription cost borne by TfL so that its Bus Subcontractors could be covered by TfL's CIRAS subscription for the period commencing 4 January 2016 and thereafter.

Yours sincerely,

Tom Kearney
