Dear Office for National Statistics,

I would like the information regarding exactly how many people have died within 28 days of receiving a covid 19 vaccination in the United Kingdom..
I have read the yellow card scheme and reported adverse reactions but this says 'Several thousand deaths within 7 days of vaccination deemed natural due to life expectancy and health conditions etc..
I would like the exact figures for exactly how many people have died within 28days of recieving a covid 19 vaccination in the United Kingdom..
I would also like the figures for how many of these people had recieved just one dose of the covid 19 vaccination and how many had recieved both doses of the covid 19 vaccination..

Yours faithfully,

Kristina

Dear Kristina,

Thank you for your email requesting for all deaths within 28 days of a COVID-19 vaccination in England and Wales. Please find the below response.

Deaths after receipt of COVID-19 Vaccine

You can find the number of deaths involving COVID-19 (not restricted to 28 days after vaccination) in table 12 of our Monthly Mortality Analysis dataset, these include figures for deaths involving adverse reactions to the COVID-19 vaccination. There are currently 2 deaths registered with the aligning International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD) codes for this. However, should this change, they will be updated in this table. This publication will be updated in June 2021.

Deaths within 28 days of the vaccine

This information requires complex analysis linking vaccination records to death registrations. We are working on analysis on all aspects of the relationship between COVID-19 vaccination and mortality, which will be published in June. Once we have finalised these plans a publication date will be announced on our Release Calendar.

As such, this information is considered exempt under Section 22(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, whereby information is exempt from release if there is a view to publish the information in the future. Furthermore, as a central government department and producer of official statistics, we need to have the freedom to be able to determine our own publication timetables. This is to allow us to deal with the necessary preparation, administration, and context of publications. It would be unreasonable to consider disclosure when to do so would undermine our functions.

This exemption is subject to a public interest test. We recognise the desirability of information being freely available and this is considered by ONS when publication schedules are set in accordance with the Code of Practice for Statistics. The need for timely data must be balanced against the practicalities of applying statistical skill and judgement to produce the high quality, assured data needed to inform decision-making. If this balance is incorrectly applied, then we run the risk of decisions being based on inaccurate data which is arguably not in the public interest. This will have an impact on public trust in official statistics in a time when accuracy of official statistics is more important to the public than ever before.

Dear FOI Team,

Once again this does not answer my question..
Your monthly mortality data does not include deaths after covid vaccine..
The yellow card scheme clearly states "SEVERAL THOUSAND DEATHS WITHIN 7 DAYS OF VACCINATION " that have NOT been included in the ADR yellow card scheme reports..
I want to know EXACTLY how many have NOT been included in the reports??

Yours sincerely,

Kristina

FOI Team, Office for National Statistics

Dear Kristina,

Thank you for your enquiry.

The number of deaths reported in the Yellow Card where the deceased died as a direct result of adverse reaction from a COVID-19 will be reported in our Monthly Mortality Report. It is likely that where doctors have determined that the death is due to adverse reaction from COVID-19 vaccines such deaths will be referred to a coroner. As such there will be a delay before those deaths start showing up in our monthly mortality statistics as coroners will need to hold an inquest before cause of death is officially established.

In terms of the 'SEVERAL THOUSAND DEATHS WITHIN 7 DAYS OF VACCINATION' this refers to people who have unfortunately died of natural causes (other than COVID-19) even after they have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

As we stated in our previous response to produce this information, we require complex analysis linking vaccination records to death registrations. We are working on analysis on all aspects of the relationship between COVID-19 vaccination and mortality, which will be published in June 2021. Once we have finalised these plans a publication date will be announced on our Release Calendar.
