Thank you for your Freedom of Information Act (FOI) request, as received
on 5 March 2019 and acknowledged on 6 March 2019.  You kindly further
clarified your request on Sunday 10 March 2019.  For information, the
University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is one of the largest and
busiest NHS teaching Trusts in the country incorporating the Leicester
Royal Infirmary, Glenfield and Leicester General Hospitals. Our three
hospitals have around 15,000 staff serving around 1.2 million people
across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, and a further two to three
million people from the rest of the UK who come to us for treatment from
one of our specialist services.  During 2017/18 we treated 1,410,500
patients - that’s 3,864 patients each day.

 

Following consultation with colleagues from the Corporate Operations team,
I confirm that the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust holds
information covered by your FOI request.   In your Freedom of Information
Act request, you asked for the following information and the Trust’s
response is provided below:-  

 

1.     How many failed discharges have there been in the past 12 calendar
months relating to Alcohol dependency? (you clarified on 10 March 2019
that by ‘failed discharge’ you meant instances where a patient had been
discharged and then readmitted within 24 hours of discharge)

 

2.     With regards to alcohol dependency how many Patients have been
admitted back into hospital within 12 hours of being discharged.

Please give statistics for the past 12 calendar months?

 

Please see the table below – this provides a count of patients who were
discharged from UHL with a diagnosis for F10.2 (Alcohol dependence
syndrome) coded anywhere within their admission who were readmitted back
into UHL as an emergency within 1) 24 hours and 2) 12 hours.
