Dear Ms Kotova

Freedom of Information request:  FOI-36029

Thank you for your request dated 15 January 2020

Our response is as follows:

1. Do you have any policies that require the Local Authority to consider
residential placements for adults receiving social care support funded by
the council when providing support in the community is more expensive?

No policy exists that uses residential costs as a ceiling for community
based services.

2. What social care support services have you put in place to reduce the
likelihood of someone entering residential care, and ensure they can
continue to live in their own homes?

The Council has a range of services that are intended to prevent or delay
the need for residential care and support people to remain in their own
homes.  These include in-house reablement and externally provided
homecare;  support for carers including respite.  Greenwich has a vibrant
voluntary and community sector and commissions a number of these
organisations to provide services that increase wellbeing and prevent
social isolation, by helping people connect with their community.

3. How much money have you spent on adult social care support for people
who live in the community over the last five years? Please provide
breakdown for people of working age and older people.

This information is publicly available as part of our ASC-FR (Adult Social
Care Activity and Finance Report):

4. How many adults with care and support needs received social care
support in their own home or in the community? Please provide breakdown
for people of working age and older people.

At the end of December 2019 2608 people were supported with community
based services of which, 1136 were working age adults and 1472 were older
people.

5. How much money have you spent on residential placements for adult
social care over the last five years? Please provide breakdown for people
of working age and older people and provide a separate figure for out of
borough placements.
