*********** FOI REQUEST *************

Please could you provide me with the following data on 2022 entry's admissions cycle for MPharm B230

This information is being withheld. This information is exempt from disclosure by virtue of FOI S.43(2) - prejudice to the commercial interests of the University. This exemption applies because the information is both sensitive and commercial, and the disclosure of it would be likely to prejudice the commercial interests of the University. Using the FOI s43 exemption requires the University to undertake a public interest test which we have detailed below.

The University appreciates that there is an inherent public interest in ensuring openness, transparency and accountability around anticipated student numbers, number of applicants, postgraduate courses being ran, and the performance of our public functions (teaching and learning) as a whole. The University also recognises that active competition in an open market can bring benefits to consumers of services, for example prospective students, which may be in the public interest.

However, the public interest in disclosure needs to be balanced against the public interest in withholding the information. In this case disclosure of this information may prejudice the University's position in the highly competitive marketplace of student recruitment, engagement with other organisations by revealing commercially sensitive information to rival universities and organisations. Undermining the University's position in this way would in turn be likely to have a detrimental impact on its commercial revenue. Such an impact would prejudice the core business functions of the University and even undermine its ability to fulfil its role, which is not in the public interest. As such, the balance of public interest tips in favour of withholding this information from disclosure, we do acknowledge that commercial sensitivities can diminish over time and have taken this into account.

We acknowledge that commercial sensitivities may lessen over time, meaning this information may be subject to disclosure after the end of the current academic year.

******* END *************

We are required to include details of our complaints procedures, including your rights to apply to the Information Commissioner. The procedure is detailed in our Freedom of Information and Environmental Information Regulations policy on the web at www.reading.ac.uk/freedom-of-information...

If we are unable to resolve any complaint, you can complain to the Information Commissioner, the independent body who oversees the access to information regimes: https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/
