Dear Wei Quan

Thank you for your recent Freedom of Information request. Please find below the College's response to your questions.

I'd like to request the following information about the following courses for the sessions, 2018/2019, 2019/2020

1. Number of applicants
2. Number of offers made
3. Mode and 25th to 75th percentile of GPA for admitted students from the US 4. Mode and 25th to 75th percentile of GRE score submitted by students who received offers 5. Academic fields of admitted students (i.e. mathematics, finance, humanities etc.)

Courses:

The information that you have requested is attached. Please note the following:

-Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is new course for 19/20 entry and therefore there is no data for 18/19 entry. Data has been provided for MSc Computing (artificial intelligence) instead.

- We are unable to provide data for the 19/20 year of entry as recruitment is still in session and the numbers are therefore subject to change.

-Figures of 5 or fewer have been replaced by an asterisk. This is because individuals may be identifiable from the data provided.

We cannot provide the exact number as there is a risk that individuals could be identifiable. Information is exempt from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act, Section 40(2), if it is personal data and releasing the information would breach one of the data protection principles contained in the Data Protection Act 2018/General Data Protection Regulations.

Statistical information can amount to personal information if it would be possible to identify the individual from that information or from that information and other information that may be available to the recipient of the information. Where small numbers are involved, the possibility that the receiver might be able to link the information to an individual is increased.

The first data protection principle requires us to be fair in the way we handle a person's information. It would not be regarded as fair to disclose information that the individual would not reasonably expect to be made public. Our students would not expect the information that they have given us for admissions purposes to be made available to the public. This is a refusal notice in relation to the personal information aspect of your request as required by the Freedom of Information Act.

If you are unhappy with the way that we have handled your request, you can ask us to conduct a review. Please make your representation in writing within 40 days of the date you received this response. If you remain dissatisfied with how Imperial College has handled your request you may then approach the Information Commissioner's Office.

Kind regards,

Freedom of Information Team
