Refusal Notice

This Refusal Notice has been issued under Section 17 of the Freedom of
Information Act (FOIA) in respect of your request for information under
Section 1 (1) of the FOIA.  The University of Manchester confirms that the
information requested may be held but we are refusing to provide it in
response to your request for the reasons set out below.

Reason for our refusal

The information requested may be held but it is estimated that for staff
to look into providing this data would exceed 18 hours of work. Under
Section 12 of the FOIA we are not obliged to comply with the request if
the cost of compliance exceeds the appropriate limit, i.e., £450 or 18
hours labour at £25 per hour.  We have estimated that complying with your
request would exceed the appropriate limit.

We do not record predicted or actual grades of A-level subjects on our
central student record system. It has been estimated that it would take
over 18 hours of work to collate this data as we would need to check each
individual student file to provide the data.  We would also need to check
the records of all applicants to the course. The University therefore
believes that the data is exempt under Section 12 of the Act.

We may be able to provide data for questions 1 and 2 within the
timeframe.  If you wish to narrow down the request please let us know.
