Acute Trust CYP Healthcare

Janet Eastham made this Freedom of Information request to Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust as part of a batch sent to 121 authorities Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust,

I am requesting data about the use of Acute and Hospital Trust services by children and young people experiencing psychological distress.

The questions are in order of priority. Please work your way from Question 1 to 5, and simply answer as many questions as you can within the time deadline. If you are unable to answer all the questions within the time deadline, please simply provide the information you are able to gather.

For every month from 1 January 2019 to 31 May 2021, please answer the following questions:

1 In that month, how many children and young people (CYP) aged 18 and under did you refer to CAMH services after they arrived in your emergency department(s)?

2 In that months, of these CYP in question one, how many were referred to CAMH services for treatment of a suspected or confirmed eating disorder? If helpful, please search against the ICD Code F50.0, which may be included in the referral.

3 In that month, how many CYP were admitted to or treated by your acute hospital trust for the following:

3 a Treatment of an eating disorder, such as refeeding and medical stabilisation? If helpful, please search against the ICD Code F.50, which should cover all relevant eating disorder diagnoses.

3 b Treatment of self-inflicted injury? If helpful, please search against ICD Codes X60 to X69.

3 c Treatment of drug or other toxic substance overdose, whether accidental or intentional? If helpful, please search against ICD Codes X70 to X84.

4 In this month, how many CYP were admitted to your acute trust for compulsory treatment with use of the Mental Health Act?

5 In this month, of those CYP admitted to your acute trust for compulsory treatment with use of the Mental Health Act, how many had an eating disorder diagnosis (ICD Code in the F50 category)?

Yours faithfully,

Janet Eastham

Dear FOI (WORCESTERSHIRE ACUTE HOSPITALS NHS TRUST),

I am looking forward to receiving your response by 19 July 2021.

A few points of clarification.

For Q 1 and 2, please keep in mind that this referral data should be held by yourselves - ie ACUTE Trusts - so please do not refuse this on the grounds that the data will be held by the Trusts you are referring to, as this is not the case!

For Q2, you may find it helpful to search using the following concept IDs or read codes, rather than ICD codes:
Concept IDs: 56882008, 231522009, 700213005, 439960005, 78004001, 1067201000000106, 427469003, 270902002, 275474009, 249520001, 231521002
OR
Read Codes: E271, X00Sz, E2751, Eu502, XE1Yk, XafjT, Eu504, XE2b9, XM1Q4, X76dF, E202z, X00Sy

For Q3, apologies, I found a mistake in the ICD10 codes I initially supplied - Q3b should be using codes X70 to X84; Q3c should be using codes X60 to X69. I hope this helps.

For Q4 and Q5, please note again this is data that will definitely be held by ACUTE Trusts, which do on occasion hold patients under the MHA, e.g. for refeeding and medical stabilisation. So, again, please do not refuse this on the grounds that the data will be held by the Trusts you are referring to, as this is not the case!

Further, please can you supply all data in an excel spreadsheet?

Yours sincerely,

Janet Eastham

Dear Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust's handling of my FOI request 'Acute Trust CYP Healthcare'.

Please can you - as requested in my original FOI - provide data for Q3a and Q3b for each month, not by grouping months together randomly? If you wish to obscure numbers below 5 you may use an asterisk.

Yours faithfully,

Janet Eastham
