Dear West Suffolk Council,

The following questions relate to the websites run by the council.

Can you tell me when was the last audit conducted and can I have results of that audit?

Also what steps is the council taking to make sure that websites are accessable by September 23 2020?

Yours faithfully,

Abdul Hai

policy, West Suffolk Council

Dear Mr Hai

I refer to your email and received on 11 November 2019 requesting information under the Freedom of Information Act. As you may be aware Forest Heath District Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council were abolished on 1 April 2019 and replaced with West Suffolk Council. Prior to 1 April 2019 Forest Heath District Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council were working together under the banner West Suffolk to provide a shared service across the boundaries of both authorities. This response is sent on behalf of the West Suffolk Council and its predecessors.

Questions:
The following questions relate to the websites run by the council.

1.Can you tell me when was the last audit conducted and can I have results of that audit?

2.Also what steps is the council taking to make sure that websites are accessible by September 23 2020?

Answer:

1.The Council uses Siteimprove to test our websites weekly and we regularly post results of that on our website as part of our accessibility pages - they can be found at

https://www.westsuffolk.gov.uk/accessibi...

2.The new West Suffolk Council was created this year, on 1 April, and the website updated at the same time. Therefore we made sure our main website met the September 2019 date rather than the 2020 which is for existing websites. All websites we are responsible for have accessibility statements which also highlight areas we are working on to meet the 2020 deadline. Using the results of our testing we are carrying out various activities that includes, but is not restricted to, addressing those areas such as better training for content editors, introducing subtitles or available transcripts for films, looking at the use of pdfs.

If you are unhappy with this response you may request an internal review of this matter via the Council’s corporate complaints procedure. If, after an internal review, you are still unhappy with the decision, you have a right of appeal to the Information Commissioner at the following address:

Information Commissioner’s Office
Wycliffe House
Water Lane
Wilmslow
Cheshire
SK9 5AF

Best wishes

Val
