Acceptance of withdrawn and Scottish/ Irish currency

Doug Paulley made this Freedom of Information request to Post Office Limited Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was successful.

Dear Post Office Limited,

Please can you provide your policy on post office / sub post office decisions on accepting the following currencies as part of business bank deposits:

1) withdrawn Bank of England coinage and notes, including old £1 coins and paper £20 notes
2) Scottish and Irish notes, I.e. £5, £10, £20.

What I mean is: are sub-post offices required to accept such (provided genuine and not forged, of course) or what are their rules?

Also: is there a limit on the number of deposits one can make in one transaction? For example, if I take 4 days' cash takings, with 4 different deposit slips, in one go, will the post office or sub post office have to process the deposits?

Thank you

Yours faithfully,

Doug Paulley
