Dear P Pillai
Thank you for contacting Buckinghamshire Council and your request for information regarding
secondary school allocations.
Request:
As the 2nd round of secondary school allocations (April 1st) is completed and acceptance deadline
day is passed, can I know how many applicants declined the offer for all the 13 grammar schools and
any vacant seats if any, please? (that's, what is the latest status of seat allocation for all 13 schools).
This request has been handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Please refer to our response below:
Response:
The Council considers a ‘fewer than five’ response to be appropriate in this case. A more accurate
number or response to the questions asked, would potentially release personal information where
individuals could be identified, either from this information alone, or a combination of this
information and other information otherwise available to the public.
Section 40(2) provides an exemption from disclosure for information that is (a) the personal data of
an individual other than the requester and (b) where disclosure would breach any of the data
protection principles in Article 5 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
In this case disclosure of a more specific response to the questions asked would be unfair to the
individuals concerned.

*Note that a 'declination' may mean one of two things:
a) the family have declined the place because they do not need/want a school place, or
b) the place has been taken away from the child in order for a higher preference school to be
offered as part of an allocation round (each child may only have one school offer at a time).
**There are no vacant places currently at any Buckinghamshire grammar school, for entry to Y7 in
September 2022, and each school has a waiting list: in the event an offer is declined, the vacant
place will be filled from the waiting list.
Please quote the reference number 1446821 in any future communications.
