Section B
21 Module summary
In this module students will consolidate, apply and extend their knowledge from previous
modules (Introduction to Clinical Optometry and Clinical Optometry 1 and 2)
This module primarily involves a series of lab-based practical sessions and clinical skills
practical sessions, with a series of workshops/classes to support the practical sessions.
Students will continue to learn about the core competencies (Stage 1) as defined by the
General Optical Council (GOC).
The practical sessions will continue to develop the clinical competencies required for
Optometric Practice and will be broadly linked to and support the problem-based learning
cases presented in Clinical Case Studies 3.
They will also explore the clinical knowledge, professional practice skills, legal and ethical
issues and population health matters drawn from the problem-based learning cases presented
in Clinical Case Studies 3. Clinical placement will help to consolidate students’ learning.

Learning Outcome 3 (LO3):
Analyse clinical data with respect to findings reported in the clinical and scientific literature and
describe investigation and management plans for patients with disorders of binocular vision

24 Indicative content
In this module students will continue to develop the examination techniques introduced in
Clinical Optometry 1 and 2, and be introduced to further examination techniques including
investigative techniques for assessment of a range of ocular conditions
On completion of the module the student should be able to perform a more detailed eye
