Thank you for your request dated 4 June in which you asked the Department of Health and Social
Care (DHSC):
“Dear Department of Health and Social Care,
I request in Excel file the pay and non pay budget for the communications team of the NIHR
Clinical Research Network for financial years 17/18, 18/19,19/20 and 20/21. I request the pay
budget include a breakdown of each position title, banding (including spine point if on an NHS
contract) and cost which is all unidentifiable information. I'm aware the details of the post occupiers
are outside of FYI under pay threshold and am not requesting this information.
The non pay budget should also list individual transactions made in the year, including year to
date. ”

DHSC has the information you have requested. Please note that some of this information has
been withheld under Section 40(2) of the FOIA, which provides for the protection of personal
information. Section 40 prohibits a public body from disclosing personally identifiable information,
as doing so would contravene data protection principles.

The information for 2020/21 is actual expenditure for 2 months, and then forecasted/budgeted
figures for the rest of the year. The previous years are actual expenditure.
If you are not satisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right to appeal by asking for
an internal review. This should be submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the
response to your original letter and should be addressed to the address at the top of this letter, or
the email address at the end of this letter.

If you are not content with the outcome of your internal review, you may complain directly to the
Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you
