EU Academic Staff

The request was successful.

Dear Open University FOI Team,

Some time ago, I wrote to you about the difficulties of recruiting academic staff from the EU in the current political climate. I am concerned, but hopeful that the Open University has been able to continue to recruit EU staff in significant numbers.

I was wondering if you would be able to tell me:

1) How many new EU academic staff the university has been able to recruit over the last year
2) How many EU academic staff have left the university over the same time period
3) The overall number of EU academic staff currently working at the Open University (this one is less important)

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Matthew Taylor

Dear Mr Taylor

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request.

I can confirm that the Open University holds the information which
constitutes information falling within the scope of your request.  Please
see below for the answers to your request which I have highlighted in
blue;

1) How many new EU academic staff the university has been able to recruit
over the last year – 299 (Associate Lectures) AL’s & 19 other Academic
Staff

2) How many EU academic staff have left the university over the same time
period – 9 ALs & 29 other Academic Staff

3) The overall number of EU academic staff currently working at the Open

Please note that Associate Lecturers (ALs) are a staffing group probably
unique to the Open University, of part time appointments (usually of about
6 hours a week in term time but which can be compounded by one individual)
of tutors who support students through their distance learning
experience.
