Your request and our responses are outlined below: 1. Are you aware of Historic England’s Heritage Champion Initiative?
Yes, we can confirm that we are aware of Historic England’s Heritage Champion
Initiative. 2. Does your local authority currently have an appointed Heritage Champion and if
so, when were they appointed?
No, we do not have a Heritage Champion. 3. Do you have the name and contact details of the Heritage Champion?

The authority has plans to develop a heritage strategy with partners and has discussed
this with Historic England and the National Heritage Lottery Fund amongst other
stakeholders. While we do not currently have a designated Heritage Champion, the
Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities has responsibility for the heritage
agenda. Work on a partnership Heritage Strategy will identify any needs for advocacy of
heritage in Coventry across the partners, including the Council, and result in
recommendations for the Council, which may include the appointment of a Heritage
