Please could you provide the following statistics separately for each year
2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
 
1) The number of formal grievances submitted by employees in total.

discrimination.
 
Of the total grievances for the period, 3 out of 70 involved allegations
of disability discrimination. We are unable to break the numbers down by
year because of the low numbers involved and the risk that the individuals
involved could be identified.
 
3) The number of formal grievances that included allegations of the
College not abiding by its own internal policies.
 
3 out of 70.
 
4) The number of formal grievances that included complaints against
members of the human resources function.
 
Fewer than 3 out of 70.
 
5) The number of grievances in each year that ultimately resulted in the
employee leaving the College.
 
This information is not held by the College. We would not be able to
distinguish between people who raised a grievance and then subsequently
left the College for some other reason (for example because they were on a
fixed-term contract)) and those who left for reasons related to a
grievance.
 
6) The number of employees with disclosed mental health issues.
 
We are not clear what you mean by “disclosed mental health issues”. The
College may be made aware of employees’ mental health issues through
various channels, which might include the reasons given to explain
sickness absence and referrals to Occupational Health. If you are
interested in the number of employees who have a declared disability that
relates to mental health issues, please confirm.
 
 

 3. IMPFOI-19-521, received 03/10/19, Compliance with the PSED and info
about grievances

 
In accordance with The Equality Act 2010  please could you provide the the
annual publications (the last five years) that demonstrates compliance
with the PSED. Namely the proactive steps that the College has taken to:
 
"1. Eliminate discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other
conduct prohibited by the Act.
2. Advance equality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant
protected characteristic and persons who do not.
3. Foster good relations between persons who share a relevant protected
characteristic and persons who do not"

I would be particularly like information pertaining to how the College has
addressed the above criteria for those with mental health issues at the
College?

For the years 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 please could you provide the
numbers of formal grievances that have been submitted to the College by
its employees pertaining to:
 
1) Harassment
2) Victimization
3) Direct discrimination
 
With regards to direct discrimination what proportion of grievances to the
College involved the Complainant having mental health issues?
 
 
We do not record information about grievances in a way that enables us to
distinguish between those involving grievances brought on the basis of
allegations of harassment, victimisation or direct discrimination. The
categorisation used is “harassment and bullying”. The numbers of
grievances raised that were categorised as relating to harassment and
bullying are as follows:

Dear IMPFOI,
Thank you for your response.

I am concerned by the response pertaining to the adherence of the University to Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED).

1) One of the links to information the University believes provides information on its adherence to PSED is only available to those who are employees/students at the University and is password protected.
Why is this not available to the public?

2) I appear to have been sent a number of documents that contain general statements but no statistics or information on how statements will be achieved or when any aims will be delivered?

3) In the HR strategy document there are only two references to mental health (for which information was specifically requested).

i) "..we will provide the best in class support in physical and mental health.."
ii) " An organisation that nurtures the physical and mental health of its workforce"

Could you explain:

Which part of the documents demonstrates compliance, it is not clear.

4) The University wide strategy does not appear to mention mental health. It does mention diversity three times, however only once is an aim.

" we will be proactive in our promotion of inclusiveness and diversity"...

Could you provide details on how the above has been achieved? Which part of the strategy document demonstrates delivery of the University's responsibility under S.149 of the Equality Act 2010?

Thank you for your recent Internal Review Request. You were unhappy about
the information provided in response to your request relating to the
Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED), our ref. IMPFOI-19-521.

 

I am sorry that we sent you a link to a page on our website that was not
accessible. I have downloaded and attached a pdf version of the statistics
relating to staff published on that page. It provides general information
about staff that broadly relate to the PSED. There is nothing on those
pages relating specifically to mental health issues. As stated in our
response, the links provided were to "further figures relating to the
Public Sector Equality Duty". You may also find the following information

In respect of your other points, it is important to bear in mind that the
Freedom of Information Act gives the public a right to access records held
by public authorities. As the [2]Information Commissioner’s guidance
states, while a request may be phrased in the form of a question, “the
authority does not have to answer your question if this would mean
creating new information or giving an opinion or judgment that is not
already recorded”. We have provided you with all of the information that
we hold that is relevant to your questions about the PSED. Following a
search of our paper and electronic records, I can confirm that we hold no
recorded information that directly answers your questions.

 

Having reviewed the College’s original response I am satisfied that the
College has provided all of the information that it holds on this matter.
