Dear Mr Pirttilahti
Information request
Reference number: FOI2019/00454
Thank you for your email of 23 April 2019. You requested the following information:
‘Network Rail publishes industry data through the open data platform. In the
open data feeds, 'commercially sensitive' trains are anonymised on train service
code level in such a way that the train cannot be immediately identified (i.e. by
deleting information and using pseudo-codes).
I hereby request a list of all train service codes which should appear in the open
data feeds as anonymous.’
I have processed your request under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act
2000.
I can inform you that we do not hold the information you requested. Obfuscation in
the TRUST message feed is handled on an operator (sector) code basis, due to the
administrative burden of updating the Open Data platform each time a new service
code is created or re-assigned. We therefore do not hold a list of train service codes
which should appear in the open data feeds as anonymous, but we do hold a set of
sector codes which are obfuscated, as listed below.
Obfuscation in the schedule feed is driven by the 'ATOC code' field. Any schedule
with a code of 'ZZ' is obfuscated within the schedule data, unless its service code
matches the pattern ^5[0-9]46[0-9]4/?$,54761000,54761100. This is to allow for GB
Railfreight services to appear unobfuscated in the schedule data.
Network Rail Infrastructure Limited Registered Office: Network Rail, 2nd Floor, One Eversholt Street, London, NW1 2DN Registered in England and Wales No. 2904587 www.networkrail.co.uk
Train services which appear on TRUST with the following sector codes are
‘whitelisted’ and TRUST messages are published for these operators without
obfuscation (a blank line in the list below means that there is no mapping at present):
