Subsidies and total running costs for bars and restaurants
in the House of Lords
Can you please tel me how much the al the bars and restaurants are subsidised by, and how
much subsidise the Lords receive and the total cost of running the bars and restaurants as also the
cost to the tax payer.
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (“the FOIA”) provides a right of access, subject to specified
exemptions, to recorded information held by a public authority. In the case of the House of Lords,
the rights of access apply to recorded information held by the House of Lords Administration.

This information is held on a financial year basis. At the time of receiving your request we hold this
information in relation to the last complete financial year, which is 2017/18.
This information is publicly available via the parliament website. The amount of subsidy provided to
House of Lords catering facilities (including bars and restaurants) in 2017/18 has previously been

As this information is already publicly available we consider it exempt under section 21 (reasonably
accessible) of the FOIA, which provides an exemption from the duty to disclose information which is
reasonably accessible by means other than making an FOI request.
