Dear University of Northampton,

I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I would be interested in any information held by your organisation regarding my request on staff wellbeing in Higher Education (HE).

I would like to request the following information, covering the last 12 months:

1. The job title of the senior manager with lead responsibility for staff wellbeing in the University.
2. The number of mental health specialist staff available within the university to support staff wellbeing.
3. A copy of the University’s Policy (procedures)/other relevant document(s) to support the wellbeing of staff.
4. The type of services offered to support staff wellbeing in the University
5. The number of referrals to services offered where staff wellbeing was a primary reason for the referral
6. Staff take up (number) by each service offered to support staff wellbeing.

Please provide the above information in the form of electronic files.

If it is not possible to provide the information required due to the information exceeding the cost of compliance limits identified in section 12, please provide assistance under section 16, obligation of the Act, as to how I can refine my request.

In response to your question one:

I would like to request the following information, covering the last 12
months:

1.        The job title of the senior manager with lead responsibility for
staff wellbeing in the University.

The job title of the senior manager with lead responsibility for staff
wellbeing at the University is HR Director

 

In response to your question two:

2.        The number of mental health specialist staff available within
the university to support staff wellbeing.

There are 77 Mental Health First Aiders available across the University to
support staff wellbeing. Staff can also make use of the Mental Health and
Counselling Service in an emergency.

 

In response to your question three:

3.        A copy of the University’s Policy (procedures)/other relevant
document(s) to support the wellbeing of staff.

This information is exempt under section 21 (information reasonably
accessible to the applicant by other means) of the Freedom of Information

The services offered to support staff wellbeing across the University are:

Access to Mental Health First Aiders

Occupational Health including counselling

Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) – available online and via telephone

Resilience training

Mediation

Free Flu vaccinations

Online training opportunities

 

In response to your question five:

5.        The number of referrals to services offered where staff
wellbeing was a primary reason for the referral

Over the last twelve months the University has had 47 referrals for
physical and mental wellbeing to our Occupational Health Service.

 

In response to your question six:

6.        Staff take up (number) by each service offered to support staff
wellbeing.

The take-up by staff for the services we offer over the last twelve months
is:

o Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) – online and by telephone –
between October 2017 and September 2018 - 336 sessions
o Free Flu vaccinations in 2018 - 200 
o Staff development in Emotional Resilience and Thriving in a Changing
Environment between December 2017 and November 2018 - 92 attendees
