Dear Mr Singer,
Thank you for your email of 8 November 2018 in which you request the following information:
“Could you please provide me with a copy of the Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme contract
as of 2018 for Army Sponsored Bursars.
If available could any documentation regarding regimental choice be provided also?”
I am treating your correspondence as a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act
2000 (FOIA).
I am writing to confirm that the MOD holds some of the information on the subject you have requested. I
should explain that when a student joins the Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme (DTUS) as an
Army Bursar they will also join the Army Reserves as an Officer Cadet. This means that there is a two-
stage process to follow rather than a specific contract. Firstly, they sign a Deed of Acceptance
(undertaking) for DTUS and secondly, the Army Reserve Attestation Paper and the Army Reserve
Notice Paper which we have enclosed with this letter.
Annex A: MODLA/NCS Deed of Acceptance of a place on DTUS
Annex B: AFE 7545 Army Reserve Attestation Paper
Annex C: AFE 7545 A Notice Paper-Army Reserve Soldier
In response to your request for documentation regarding regimental choice, I can confirm that no
specific documentation is provided to the DTUS attendee with the details of any specific Regiment. It
may be helpful if I explain that the four key Regiments (Royal Logistics Corps, Royal Signals, Royal
Engineers and the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) each have a dedicated
Recruitment Team that is led by individual Regimental HQ that engages with individuals throughout the
scheme. Whilst at DTUS a provisional decision is made regarding regimental choice but a final
agreement between the individual and the Regiment will not be made until the second, Intermediate
Term at Sandhurst, when the Regimental Selection Boards are held. All DTUS candidate Officer
Cadets will, at this stage, be presented to two formal Regimental Boards which should, under normal
circumstances be from those Regiments previously mentioned. Upon receiving a successful ‘offer’ from
the Regimental Board they will then choose to select from one of the two offers made, or will take the
single Regimental offer if only one is provided to the Cadet.
If you have any queries regarding the content of this letter, please contact this office in the first instance.
Following this, if you wish to complain about the handling of your request, or the content of this
response, you can request an independent internal review by contacting the Information Rights
Compliance team, Ground Floor, MOD Main Building, Whitehall, SW1A 2HB (e-mail
CIO-FOI-
xx@xxx.xxx.xx). Please note that any request for an internal review should be made within 40 working
days of the date of this response.
If you remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you may raise your complaint directly to the
Information Commissioner under the provisions of Section 50 of the Freedom of Information Act. Please
note that the Information Commissioner will not normally investigate your case until the MOD internal
review process has been completed. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information
Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF. Further details of
the role and powers of the Information Commissioner can be found on the Commissioner's website at
