LBC Request : Bariatric Rescues

The request was partially successful.

Rachael Venables

Dear Cleveland Fire Brigade,

1. I'd like to know how many bariatric rescues the fire service was called out to attend, for each financial year, from 2013 to 2018?

Could you divide all information, by financial year?

Also, if possible, could you provide any details that you can to these rescues - (e.g.) the location type, the rescue required, number of crews called or age of person attended to?

2. Can you also provide the amount spent by the fire service on bariatric-related training and equipment, divided by financial year?

If possible, can you again provide details - so models, hoists, lifting equipment etc.?

I wish to be informed in writing whether you have such information and, if so, I seek the disclosure of that information. If the information is covered by any exemptions, please disclose such information as is not covered by the exemptions.

If you are considering charging for the disclosure of this information, please inform me before any work that would be liable to a charge is carried out.

Yours faithfully,

Rachael Venables

Dear Rachael Venables,

Freedom of Information Request

I am writing further to your email of 31 July 2018 where you requested the
following information:

1. I'd like to know how many bariatric rescues the fire service was called
out to attend, for each financial year, from 2013 to 2018? Bariatric
incident information is publicly available via Gov.uk website -

[1]https://www.gov.uk/government/statistica....

You should then navigate to incident level datasets>non-fire incidents:
bariatric assistance datasets

Could you divide all information, by financial year?

Also, if possible, could you provide any details that you can to these
rescues - (e.g.) the location type, the rescue required, number of crews
called or age of person attended to?

2. Can you also provide the amount spent by the fire service on
bariatric-related training and equipment, divided by financial year? See
attached PDF.

You have the right to seek a review of this decision and a request should
be made to the Head of ICT for this purpose. The request should be in
writing with the grounds for a review and sent to the Head of ICT, at the
address below or email [Cleveland Fire Brigade request email]

Reviews should be made within 40 working days of our response to your
request being issued.  Any requests for review received outside of the 40

directly to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for a decision.

Dear Freedom of Information Officer,

Thank you for your response.

I followed the links as directed, but could not see anything listed which concerned bariatric rescues. The closest concerned was 'release of persons.'

Can you advise, or send the data directly?

Best,

Rachael Venables

OFFICIAL:

Dear Rachael Venables,

The data you require is in row 176 (Assist other agencies - Other assistance to police/ambulance - Bariatric person) under the heading of Non Fire Incidents - FIRE0902: "Non-fire incidents attended by detailed type of action" use the link we previously sent you.

Also, find or select within the spreadsheet would have found the data in row 176.

Dear Info,

Thank you. I was able to find row 176, however the data contained in that grid is national (England). I want the information for Cleveland specifically.

The link above, "FIRE0901: Non-fire incidents attended by type of incident and fire and rescue authority (MS Excel Spreadsheet, 4.52MB)" which does mention Cleveland, has no 'Bariatric' data.

Yours sincerely,

Rachael Venables

Dear Rachael Venables,

I have downloaded the spreadsheet from the government's website
([1]Non-fire incidents: bariatric assistance dataset), see attached
spreadsheet.

It will need filtering as it contains each Fire Services stats.  Here’s
some guidance [2]Non-fire incidents: bariatric assistance guidance.

Hi,

Thats brilliant. Thank you very much for sending it across, whatever I was searching for through the link it clearly wasn't right!

That data only goes up to 2016/17 though. Do you have the stats for 17/18?

Many thanks,

Rachael Venables

OFFICIAL:

Dear Rachael Venables,

If those years stats aren’t in the link, it means they haven't been released yet.

They tend to start releasing data for previous years in tranches starting around August.

We would suggest you just keep rechecking weekly.
