Subject: Freedom of Information request - Senior management salaries
Dear York St John University,
I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. In order to assist you with this request, I am outlining my query as
specifically as possible.
I would like to know the yearly salary of the deputy vice chancel or/s and how much that has increased since 2012, year-to-year.
I would be interested in any information held by your organization regarding my request. I understand that I do not have to specify files or
documents and that it is the institution’s responsibility to provide the information I require. If you need further clarification, please contact me by
email.
I would like to receive the information electronically.
If my request is denied in whole or in part, I ask that you justify this by reference to specific exemptions of the Act. I wil also expect you to release
all non-exempt material. I reserve the right to appeal your decision to withhold any information or to charge excessive fees.
I would be grateful if you could confirm in writing/by email that you have received this request. I look forward to your response within 20 working
days, as outlined by the statute.
Yours faithfully,
David Roberts
Question 1
I would like to know the yearly salary of the deputy vice chancellor/s and how much that has increased
since 2012, year-to-year.
Response 1
The University confirms that it holds the information you have requested. However, disclosure of the
information requested would breach one or more of the data protection principles of the DPA. Section 2 of
the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) provides an absolute exemption for information which meets the criteria
detailed above; individuals would be identifiable from the information provided, and the individuals’ yearly
salary and how much is has increased would constitute personal data.
The University publishes information about senior salaries in its Financial Reports, which are available on
the webpage below.
https://www.yorksj.ac.uk/about/facts--figures/ If you are dissatisfied with the service you have received in relation to your request and wish to make a complaint, or
request a review of our decision, you should write to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Karen Stanton at
York St John University, Lord Mayor’s Walk, York YO31 7EX. If, following our internal review, you are not satisfied with
the outcome, you may write to the Information Commissioner at the following address:
