Thanks, you for your email of 28 April 2018 in which you requested the following information:
"Greetings, please would you be so kind to supply me with a copy of the “Merseyside
Army Cadet Force” training Syllabus for Cadets."
I am treating your correspondence as a request for information under the Freedom of Information
Act 2000 (FOIA).
A search for the information has now been completed within the Ministry of Defence, and I can
confirm that the information in scope of your request is held and has been provided in annex A
below.
Under section 16 of the Act (Advice and Assistance), you may find it useful to note the following:
The Merseyside Army Cadet Force do not have a separate training syllabus but follow the Army
Cadet Forces standardised syllabus known as the
"Army Proficiency Certificate". As cadets learn
more about each topic and get better at them they go up through the star levels until they reach
four-star level which usually takes four years. More information on this can be found at

If you have any queries regarding the content of this letter, please contact this office in the first
instance. Following this, if you wish to complain about the handling of your request, or the content

0553. Notes:
a.
No cadet should instruct other cadets without first having been taught how to instruct.
b.
Cadets may be considered as suitable candidates for a JCIC whilst in training for 3-
Star and must hold full 2-Star.
c.
A cadet should be able to prepare a lesson plan and take a lesson in Drill, Turnout,
Military Knowledge, Navigation, Fieldcraft, Marksmanship Principles and Expedition at Basic

or 1-Star levels. The course should allow for assessment of the cadet’s ability to instruct. The
Cadet should be graded accordingly to indicate the cadet’s ability to instruct in each subject.
Assessment
0554.
Conduct. Cadets will be continuously assessed and an assessment report should be given
on completion of the cadre. Cadets are to be graded as HC (Highly Competent), C (Competent),
NC (Not Competent).
0555.
Assessment. Assessment of cadets should follow the assessment criteria laid down in the
CFIT Handbook, in particular Annex D to the CFIT handbook and the appropriate ASpec. Lessons
should be evaluated usin
g Lesson Evaluation Form.
Cadet Progression
0556. A Cadet who shows little or no aptitude or understanding (receives a Not Competent report)
as a potential instructor will not be debarred from achieving 3-Star level. However, the
assessment report/Lesson Evaluation on the cadet will influence the choice of options at 4-Star
level and in particular their suitability for selection to attend the Senior Cadet Instructors Cadre
(SCIC). Any Cadet who receives a grading of Not Competent will not be able to undertake the
SCIC at 4-Star.
