Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of

we do hold the information you require.

 

TfL’s Schools and Young People Team offer a range of resources promoting
positive behaviour on London buses and other modes of transport. These
resources are available for a range of age groups. Please see below:

 

STARS Activity Cards – Primary and Secondary school pupils (aged 4-18)

There are a range of activity cards promoting responsible behaviour on
public transport available on TfL’s STARS (Sustainable Travel: Active,
Responsible, Safe) website ([1]https://stars.tfl.gov.uk/Explore/Idea).

 

STARS is TfL's accreditation scheme for London schools and nurseries.
STARS inspires young Londoners to travel to school sustainably, actively,
responsibly and safely by championing walking, scooting and cycling.

 

The activity cards are available for schools to use to run lessons or
assemblies with their pupils, to encourage positive behaviour from their
pupils on their journeys to / from school and on school trips. The cards
also promote the TfL Young Person’s Behaviour Code
([2]https://tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/pe...).
By running these activities, schools can use these towards their level of
STARS accreditation – bronze, silver or gold.  

 

Start Your Journey – Primary Schools - Year Six Pupils Only (aged 10-11)

Start Your Journey is a borough-specific resource designed to help year
six students plan their journey to secondary school, and provide them with
important advice for travelling safely and responsibly as they become more
independent.

 

The resource contains a borough-specific map detailing the secondary
schools in the borough, to help young people to plan their journey, with
an activity sheet on the reverse. The activity sheet is split into nine
easy to understand steps for pupils to complete ahead of the first day at
their new school, which cover messages on:

·         Safe and responsible travel

·         Journey planning and travel choices

·         Zip Oyster photocard and the TfL Behaviour Code

 

A copy of the resource is sent to every year six pupil across London in
the summer term, along with a supporting lesson plan addressed to the year
six teacher, for them to run in class. Pupils are encouraged to take their
copy of the resource home to share with their parents/carers.

 

A copy of the resource for the London Borough of Bromley and copy of the
supporting lesson plan (2) is attached.

 

Youth Travel Ambassadors (YTA) Scheme – Secondary School students (aged
11-19)

YTA is a peer to peer behaviour change programme for secondary schools in
London. The programme targets groups of pupils aged 11-19 to address
transport issues affecting their school community.

With support from TfL, the borough and school staff, YTA teams of up to 12
pupils research and develop behaviour change campaigns, focusing on:

o Active travel, encouraging more walking and cycling to school
o Road safety, sharing key road safety messages
o Improving the passenger experience by promoting responsible behaviour
on the transport network

As part of the [3]YTA Challenge programme, YTA teams can deliver a
campaign to raise awareness of antisocial behaviour on buses and proactive
ways to deal with this issue. Copies of the resources and presentations
delivered to pupils are in the attached zip file (documents 3 to 10).
