RE: FOI 17/283

Dear Ms. Clay,

Thank you for your FOI request dated 5th July where you requested information on how the detailed
overview of the safety of HPV vaccines was presented to the Commission on Human Medicines
members along with the following questions:

1) Were the members of the Commission on Human Medicines given information prior to the meeting to
study and review or was the information presented to them at the meeting

2) Is there a report or presentation available to outline the information reviewed. I would like a copy of
any information presented and/or given to the members of the CHM.

3) There is no mention of who presented to the safety information to the Commission, please confirm
who this was.
In answer to these questions, please see attached copy of the paper considered by CHM. The names
of the assessors have been removed under Section 38 (health and safety) and Section 40 (personal
information) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.  Section 38 and Section 40 are qualified
exemptions and a consideration of the public interest should be made if the exemption applies. We
have considered the public interest with regard to Section 38 and Section 40 and cannot see any
specific public interest argument in favour of releasing the requested information. Additionally,
information regarding centralised PSURs has been withheld under section 27 international relations.
If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right to ask for an internal review.
Internal review requests should be submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to
your original letter.

Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have the right to apply directly to the
Information Commissioner for a decision. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:
Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF

Yours sincerely,

FOI Team,
