David Newall’s Salary and Emoluments 2012 to Present

In a previous response to an FOI by David Black:

The University on 27th March 2012 provided a reasonable degree of information concerning payments to Mr Newall.
In line with what the University claimed was Data Protection Act (DPA) obligations, it provided salary, bonus and other emolument information in bands.
I have to assume that having done this before, and since there has been no material change to the DPA it will do so again. In the light of his imminent departure, it is perhaps appropriate to update this information at this time.
In this way, the public can learn what it has cost us all to employ this unique individual, of whom Principal Muscatelli has said:
“ (David Newall) ..has been a huge part of University life..under his astute stewardship we are in a strong position as we look to develop our campus…it will be hard to imagine life at the university without his calm and assured guidance and advice.”
In order that a grateful public may have a full record of what all of this “assured guidance and advice” has cost us all, I would be grateful if you would update the record from 27th March 2012 to the present – and projected until his leaving date in April 2017:

1. What is Mr Newall’s Current Salary
2. What was his salary for each of the years between 2012 to present – and projected to his leaving date.
3. For each annual pay raise or bonus that he has been awarded since his that date I wish to know:
- When was the pay raise / bonus approved?
- Who approved the pay raise / bonus?
- What was the amount?
- Was the payment a pay raise or a bonus?
- What was the justification for the pay raise / bonus?
4. Please also identify all and any payments in cash or in kind awarded to Mr Newall in addition to those requested above.
5. Please indicate if Mr Newall has been able to avail himself of the University’s provisions for earnings from external consultancies for each these years. If so, please indicate which years these have been operative
6. Please also provide details of Mr Newall’s expenses claimed between the dates indicated here. These should be listed under the usual categories provided for in the University’s expenses claims process (e.g. domestic travel; foreign travel; meals; subsistence; accommodation etc).

I am sure that the public will wish to see this information so that it can be fully assured of the value for money we have all had from our taxes for Mr Newall’s calm and assured guidance and advice, and to make a more accurate assessment of how modest the cost for this has been in respect of its immense value to us all.
